Alness is an excellent centre for touring the Highlands by car or train. It is a wonderful area for walking and Alness runs two walking groups on a Monday and Thursday with Walk Leaders and all ability walks.

There are many beautiful walking areas behind Alness. You can go on an easy path right to the top of Fyrish with marvellous views right round the Cromarty Firth and on a clear day you can see the Aberdeenshire, Banff, Inverness-shire and Sutherland coasts and hills.

There are many forest tracks in Ardross and right along to Aldie and Tain Forest and in Strathrory the track leads over thehill and right through to Scotsburn and Aldie Burn and even, if you take a left fork to Edderton Hill.

There are many clubs and leisure pursuits in Alness. Ardross Alness Bowling Club has one of the best greens in the Highlands and many of the best bowlers.

Alness Angling Club have a very active club and you can hire a days fishing on the Averon River, a beautiful and interesting place going right up into the hills.

The Alness Horticultural Society hold two Shows very year with the Spring Show on Saturday 6th March 2010 and the Summer and Autumn Show in September both in Perrins Centre Alness. They have meetings throughout the winter to help teach beginners and the not so expert to improve their growing.

Alness Allotment Society have over twenty allotments at Milnafua and it is hoped the next phase of another twenty will go ahead this year. They grow such a variety of fresh fruit vegetables and flowers and encourage the young people to take an interest in growing things.

Alness Transition Town Group are working hard to help people to conserve energy, recycle as much as possible and they have a keen interest in Grow Your Own Food. They run events and displays throughout the year. Watch out for them they could save you money!!
