Feast of Talent on show at Carbisdale.
08 May 2009
This year the College of Piping and the Ross and Cromarty Pipes and Drumms School joined forces once again, to run a week of piping and drumming classes at Carbisdale Castle in the Easter Holidays.
All ages are encouraged to join in and highly experienced piping and drumming tutors teach groups of eight or ten pupils at various levels according to their experience.
The furthest travelled participant this year was from Canada but there was a drumming student who was head of percussion in al arge orchestra in Poland and several other well travelled pupils.
The concert on the closing evening was a joy. All the participants played in their groups and together, led by the Ross & Cromarty Pipes and Drums band.
The many certificates were then presented and the coveted Learners Chanters from Wallace Bagpipes were presented. The most excited young man of the evening wasCalum Ross from Balintore who won a voucher for £500 for a new set of Wallace bagpipes as best student of the week.
The music played at the concert showed very clearly the high standard achieved during the week. The 33 drummers played an amazing piece to the Riverdance tune. It nearly lifted the roof off Carbisdale!
The Polish drummer did an amazing solo on a kettle drum, an instrument he had never played before he arrived in Scotland and the pipers gave such a variety of different medleys it was quite breathtaking.
Ages seemed to start about7 years and went up 'quite high'!!
Let us hope the money and support can be found to continue this excellent event next year.
