MacKenzies/Rosses of Balavack-Delny

I am a descendant (Great, Great Grand-daughter) of the Alexander Ross and Jane MacCulloch family of Balavack (Delny, Invergordon)through my Great Grandfather, James Ross who emigrated to Canada in 1869 and later to Michigan. I have been able to trace my family down to cousins, Tommy "Balavack" Ross and Annie MacIntyre Ross now deceased and I also believe that the MacKenzie family that were the last residents of Balavack steading Delny would have been related through marriage to my Ross relatives (either through my Great Great Uncles William or Finlay Ross). I have heard that Reay MacKenzie daughter of Johnny "Balavack" MacKenzie is a resident of Alness and I am hoping that news of this e-mail will find its way to her, so that we might perhaps share information about Balavack, the Ross and MacKenzie families who lived there and their descendants. I will be happy and excited for any information received. I have been researching my Ross/MacCulloch family roots for the last ten years. Most sincerely, Jean Ross

Joan - I have been checking the Alness site daily just to see if any connection with my Delny relatives or inlaws had or would be made. I am so excited to hear that one has! Thank you so much. You have made my day, my week, and my month! Jean

      Liam,

I only checked in on the site a couple of times after the post but at the time there was no rely so I did not think you had seen it. I used my website email address this way when on the major search engines like Google search sites it lets me know if there has been any new entries against the post.

How are you? Never thought it had been that long!

I have moved to England now and wanted to let you know, we were also thinking about a holiday in Florida next year, one of the reasons for the post.

Anyway Drop me an email if you want and I will get back to you.

      Cheers
      George

Burn running off Averon to Dalmore Distillery

Hi, Loved your website. Have walked the Averon route many times. Was wondering if you knew anything about the burn that runs off the Averon (just before the weir) and runs to the Dalmore Distillery?

      Hi Malcolm
Alness is one of the most friendly towns you could live in. People take time to talk to you or at least smile a welcome to everyone, visitors or residents alike. We have a good shopping street and a large very good Morrisons and a Lidl on the outskirts. We have a very good number of youth clubs and youth organisations, scouts, cubs, beavers guides brownies etc. The Averon Centre is one of the ost active vibrant leisure centres in the Highlands. There is a swimming pool beside the school,an excellent 18 hole golf course and lots of really interesting walks for all abilities.
Hope you'll look at the Community Diary on the site to see all the voluntary groups and give you more info.
      Best Wishes
      Joan

    My Great Grandfather

I managed to trace my great Grandfathers Birthplace to here in Alness.
He was a James MacDonald born (actually shows up as M small c ) (not Mac as should be) 20/11/1849 and was married to a Babara Murray.
Although i dont know much about him,it was very interseting to find this out.
I am researching my Family tree and hope that there may be something more someone could add??
It looks a very quaint little place and it would be marvellous to visit one day (my hopes are high on that)
Well just thought i would post thsi for a bit of info.
Thank you for the opportunity to let us use this site.
