Safer School Routes

Safer Routes to Schools projects encourage and enable children to walk and cycle to school through a combined package of practical and educational measures. The Safer Routes to Schools projects also aims to - improve road safety and reduce child casualties, improve children's health and development and reduce traffic congestion and pollution. Safer Routes to Schools projects involve: the whole school community - local residents, local authorities, health and education workers and the police. Successful Safer Routes projects are child-centred, build on small steps to raise awareness and change travel behaviour and benefit the whole local community by helping to create safer, more healthy environments

Some housing schemes in Alness are "20's Plenty" zones. Increased cycle proficiency training is underway as is the high quality, all ability lit route from Crawl Park Bridge to the Academy and out to Safeway and safe cycle storage at Alness Academy.
