COMMUNICATIONS
Alness is located in the Scottish Highlands, on the pleasant shores of the Cromarty Firth, overlooked by gentle rolling hills. Although in many people’s minds the Highlands are considered remote, Alness is well served by a variety of transport links, and its communications hold a number of benefits for businesses planning to set up here.

Only a few seconds off the main A9 road, Inverness is 25 miles away, and the Central Belt of Scotland is 2½ hours drive, but unlike other parts of the UK, you’ll find quieter roads where you can enjoy the spectacular scenery.
Alness station is on the Inverness to Wick line with a commuter train linking it to Inverness daily and several trains North and South every day. The deep water port of Invergordon, a regular stop on the cruise liner route nowadays, is just 3 miles away.
Inverness Airport is the principal air hub for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Located 10 miles east of the City of Inverness it offers excellent facilities to the travelling public in a modern terminal building. Daily air services between Inverness and London Gatwick, Heathrow and Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Kirkwall, and Stornoway offer the business and leisure traveller connections throughout the UK and beyond.
Holidays
Using Alness as the base for your holiday in the Highlands sets you up nicely for trips in any direction.
The two hour drive to Gairloch or Ullapool on the west coast takes you through the best of Highland scenery, past the mountains and lochs of some of the wildest landscapes in Europe.
Two hours north lie John O'Groats and the ferry trip to the Orkney Islands, whose wealth of pre-historic sites should not be missed.
Historic castles like Eilean Donan and Dunvegan, and Culloden battlefield are also relaxing day trips, and with sandy beaches on both coasts and unlimited walks and picnic sites, Alness is central to a wonderful Highland holiday.
