Alness Honoured As Champion of Champions at 2006 Britain in Bloom Awards


Alness was announced as the first winner of the Champion of Champions category of the Britain in Bloom UK Finals, organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, on 21st September.

The Awards were presented at a gala ceremony in Perth, hosted by Perth & Kinross Council and Perth in Bloom. Alness triumphed over Harrogate amd Garstang, the two competing entries, to be named Champon of Champions with a Gold Achievement Award.

RHS Britain in Bloom Judge David Jones said, "We were so impressed by how the extraordinary efforts by the volunteers over the last 10 years have completely transformed the environment.  "The involvement of children in the campaign and the creation of the wild flower meadows were highly noted, and the quality and quantities of all the floral displays were superb".

Jim Buttress, Chairman of RHS Britain in Bloom Judges added," Alness in a worthy winner of our first ever Champion of Champions category for Britain in Bloom. The hard work of the Alness in Bloom Committee and the many volunteers has been rewarded with this outstanding achievement. This award will ensure that this stunning town is set to be a favourite attraction for visitors to Scotland."
 
Alness in Bloom were Country Wide Winners this year in Both Scotland in Bloom and Britain in Bloom
In Dunfermline on 13th September they once again "swept the boards" and for the fifth time became Champions of Scotland, winning the coveted Rose Bowl once again along with the Horticultural Prize, the Best Small Town and the David Welch Memorial Prize for 'Something Special@
